Happy Libra Full Moon! Happy lunar eclipse! This is the time of the year when relationships are in the spotlight. Libra is the sign that teaches us about one-on-one connections as well as compromise, balance, negotiation, diplomacy, beauty, and design. Since this is a lunar eclipse as well, we have a major decision to make. The full moon will be exact on April 4, 2015 at 8:06 am EDT, 14 degrees Libra/Aries. For those in other parts of the world that’s 5:06 am Los Angeles, 1:06 pm London, and 12:06 am Sydney on April 5.

I’m fascinated with eclipses. I’m actually fascinated by the lunar cycle in general, especially since its this engine of momentum in astrology, but eclipses are special. They both open and close a chapter in rapid succession. And they have a habit of coinciding with major life events when they activate the natal chart. So, here we are, on the threshold of another milestone. This is our routine checkup with the gods of fate, scheduled for every six months.

As eclipses go, this one’s hooked up to some serious mojo. It falls just a couple of degrees off the Uranus/Pluto square. (For those more technically inclined, the Moon opposes Uranus and forms a t-square with Pluto.) If lunar eclipses mark a major pivot point or a time when we have to make a decision, Uranus and Pluto are telling us that we have to leave the past behind. There’s a restlessness to this full moon, an impulsivity. That’s the Uranus talking, a planet that inspires us to innovate and look toward the future, but has no time for sentimentality. The Pluto square to the eclipse means that we can’t take it with us.

Think back to October 8, 2014. We had a similarly situated lunar eclipse at 15 degrees Aries on Uranus and Pluto. In many ways the Libra eclipse is a Part 2 to last October’s Part 1, two points in a series of waves stretching back to 2012. A decision you made six months ago may have a direct tie to one you will be making in the coming days.

But the key difference between this lunar eclipse and the one last year, apart from the signs, is the ruler. The ruler of Libra is Venus and we find her over in Taurus. Further, the ruler of the Aries Sun — Mars — is in Taurus as well. That’s a lot of emphasis on the sign of earth, stability, security, resource, and fertility. I think this eclipse is a gentle reminder that whatever change may come, we must stay grounded, feet planted firmly on the earth. Taurus is about the body as well. How do we take care of it, how do we anchor in our body — something I know is hard for many of us who have strong, active 6th and 7th chakras, but have a hard time rooting into the 1st. And let us not forget that Jupiter, the planet of growth and optimism, is harmonizing with the Sun and Uranus. There’s an opportunity with this eclipse, but it requires a leap of faith.

We’re coming out of one of the most turbulent periods in astrology we’ll ever experience. The world around us — and maybe even our life — is in a state of major transition. As we clear through the rubble, make sure you plant your seeds for new life. With a strong emphasis on Taurus with this eclipse, the earth is fertile and waiting to support us in our new ventures. But with Uranus and Pluto at play, there’s a sense that we’ve turned another yet another corner.
