Happy Full Moon in Leo! This one clocks in at 7 degrees Leo/Aquarius and is the time of the year when we shine our light for all the world to see. The full moon is a time of revelation as the moon is at its brightest. It is also a time when the seeds that we planeted during the new moon reach fruition, ready to be released into the world.

Leo is the sign that teaches us about joy, abundance of spirit, creativity, art, pride, children, love, romance, fun, passion, and risk taking. Leo is also the sign that takes the raw impulse of Aries — the first fire sign — and molds it into identity and unfettered expression. Think of little children who naturally inhabit who they are without limitation. Thus the Leo New Moon is an invitation to rediscover our inner sense of self and childlike wonder, to play, paint, sing, and be our authentic selves. (I can’t help but think of the Sun card in the tarot deck.)

But when we look at the chart above, we see points of tension to this unfettered expression. First is the natural tension between the Sun in Aquarius opposing the Moon in Leo. The Sun is the dispositor of Moon, which is to say that the energy of any planet in Leo flows out to the sign that houses the Sun, its ruler. This is a technical point, but an important one because we find the Sun in Aquarius, the sign opposite Leo. There is a huge amount of tension in this full moon over the needs of self (Leo) versus the needs of the group (Aquarius). Further more, there is a huge amount of tension over identity and belonging to something larger like the tribe. Leo is the singlar to Aquarius’s collective.

And then there’s Saturn in Scorpio. Saturn is the ruler of Aquarius and it’s forming a t-square to the full moon. All this fixed energy forming inharmonious aspects feels very much like an energy surge without any flexibility. And we may feel like someone has slammed us up against the wall with this full Moon. When will enough be enough?

Saturn in Scorpio square the full moon is very much like the glowering authority figure who squelched our joy and told us that we were nothing special, giving rise to fears that prevent us from shining our light without doubting ourselves. Have you ever created something but thrown it away or hidden it because you’re afraid that it isn’t good enough? Hello, Saturn! Thus this full moon is about confronting the conditioning that hinders our natural creative impulses and the joy we get when we share our creations. Saturn squares are also exercises in mastery, so this is definitely a time to hone our identity through lessons in limitations.

The Moon is the focal point of a yod in this chart with Pluto and Chiron in a sextile. There is an imperative to be in joy, to create, and share these creations. Moon trine Uranus in Aries, again, reinforces this notion of individuality and letting our freak flag fly. Jupiter in Gemini forming a tight and supportive sextile and trine to the full moon adds a chatty, social air along with Mercury in Aquarius.

So paint, play, craft, and dust off that novel you started but never shared with anyone. Confront the voices that limit you from being joyous. Hone your creative craft. Find your tribe. And above all, celebrate your uniqueness, don’t hide it.
