Happy Aries Full Moon! Happy lunar eclipse! This is the time of the year when we shine a light on all things related to leadership, initiative, action, bravery, aggression, and even war. Eclipses are the drivers of fate in astrology, often corresponding with major events in our lives. The full moon will be exact at 6:50 am EDT on October 8, 2014 at 15 degrees Aries/Libra.

So, where to begin? This is one of the more dynamic and confrontational eclipses I’ve seen in a while. I mean, Aries is already a dynamic sign. It’s the sign that corresponds to the start of spring in the northern hemisphere. It’s life emerging from the dead of winter, green shoots bursting from of the cold soil. It’s about a heretofore invisible process suddenly becoming visible. It’s birth! And yet the Aries eclipses falls rather close to the South Node of the Moon, a point that represents the past and a process of letting go. Something begins just as something leaves. This is a referendum on where we’ve been just as we get ready to move on, leaping into a new phase of our life.

The full moon is also bang on Uranus, the planet of awakenings, genius, and revolution as well as sudden unexpected events. My friend Sherene Schostak of the Saturn Sisters called this full moon the “loaded gun” and I can’t agree more. Think of it as a sling shot or a catalyst or even revolution. Uranus combined with the power of the full moon is about to launch us into unknown territory, shaking us out of our slumber. There’s a Pluto square in this as well. Pluto is the non negotiable. We can’t go back. The old world is dying.

When we follow the ruler of the full moon, we find Mars over in Sagittarius making a spectacular grand fire trine to Jupiter and Uranus. Over the coming week life will move very fast and we’re going to have to make a leap of faith. It takes a lot of bravery to leave something behind and set off on a journey into the unknown. Thankfully we have support from Jupiter in Leo, the planet that teaches us that miracles do happen if we’re foolish enough to take a risk.

There’s more going on in the eclipse chart — Mercury trine Neptune and Mars square Chiron stirring up deep spiritual material — but they are merely supporting cast members to the big event. However we can’t look past Venus in Libra. All roads lead back to her. She is in her home sign and in fancy astrology speak this is something called the final dispositor of the chart. At the end of the day all we have is beauty, peace, and sweetness. Yes, she is square Pluto as well, and in this lunar eclipse is the potential for great transformation. To get to Venus we must deal with our Pluto in Capricorn shadow of control, power, and secrecy, transmuting it back into light.

All in all, this is intense astrology and it will set us up for a two week period that will be action packed — right up until the solar eclipse on October 23 in Scorpio. Mercury is still retrograde though, so it may take until the station on October 25 before it begins to shake out more. Regardless, get ready for a roller coaster adventure.
