This month’s winner for my online natal chart reading is Melissa. Her birth data is August 28, 1984 at 7:48 pm, Amsterdam, New York, USA. Congratulations, Melissa! [Click here for larger chart]
My eye immediately went to Melissa’s Sun/Mercury conjunction in its home sign of Virgo in the 6th house, a powerful concentration of mental acumen and analytical skills. Sun/Mercury square Mars in the 9th? Melissa is forceful and vocal advocate of her ideas. Add Uranus into the mix and there’s an element of upsetting the status quo with her beliefs. The Sun/Mercury conjunction is the focal point of a t-square. Chiron on the other end of that interplay tells me that her beliefs — her rhetoric — is karmic.
There’s an interesting interplay here between Melissa’s Pisces ascendant (AC) and the strong Virgo note in her chart. As some will know, Pisces and Virgo are opposite signs. There’s a push/pull energy to Melissa. And while Virgo is all about the physical, everyday world, Pisces is much more detached, transpersonal, and of the imagination. Pisces rising takes the edge off of Virgo’s rigidity and softens her physical presence. Neptune, her chart ruler, is square Venus, making her a little bit of a dreamer. But it’s up there in the 10th house. There’s Saturnian structure and ambition to that Neptune fog showing that Melissa is good at bringing ideas into form.
Another aspect to the Virgo/Pisces duality is that of service — service to the physical world and service to the spiritual. Someone with a strong current of Virgo energy in their chart is going to be very service conscious. Virgo makes for excellent civil servants, teachers, editors, critical thinkers, and skillful managers of organizations. They are, after all, masters of the practical details of everyday life. Pisces, on the other hand, is not of this world. They are happiest when in deep contemplation, in a state where they feel part of something much greater than themselves, and in service of spirit. This is the duality of someone who needs to give back.
There are two instances where Melissa has planets in their home signs. The first is the aforementioned Mercury in Virgo. The other, making a little sextile to her Sun/Mercury conjunction, is Pluto in Scorpio in the 8th house. These two placements are powerful and undiluted notes in her chart. Pluto here gives a Scorpio flavor to Melissa’s life. And with Saturn nearby, she’s learning powerful soul lessons about what it means to be a survivor and what it means to experience what is intimate and unsafe.
Past Lives, Karma & Healing
I’ve spoken previously of karmic signatures in Melissa’s chart that make up a part of her psyche now. Her belief systems and her fervor are something she’s brought over from past lives. In her last life, Melissa was a radical who ideas, philosophies, and group affiliations upset the status quo (Aquarius on the 12th house cusp; Uranus/Mars in the 9th house). This could have been ideas about property/material things (Aries on the 2nd house cusp) or it could have been ideas about religion (Uranus in Sagittarius).
Needless to say Melissa spoke her mind, for better or for worse, and she’s generated some karma over it. South Node conjunct Uranus/Mars confirms this and reveals that she’s evolving from the archetype of the radical, the heretical preacher, and the person to acts on impulse without thinking (Uranus/Mars square Sun/Mercury). North Node in Gemini in the 3rd house says she is moving towards a reevaluation of the facts and a new approach to learning and fact gathering. I’m a little concerned by the lack of Saturn in her chart, which would temper and slow down her Mars/Uranus impulses (although she does have two planets in the 10th house). But her Sun/Mercury conjunction in Virgo applies some breaks and reminds that cooler heads prevail.
Healing comes through balance and the exploration of the Chirotic wound. Chiron conjunct the North Node in the 3rd house deconstructs the religion and philosophy of the 9th house and examines its intellectual parts. Melissa may sometimes feel like she doesn’t have all the facts or that her early education was in some way insufficient. This is only a karmic echo. The insecurities around learning (Chiron in Gemini, crisis of intellect) is only there to foster a soul need to get more information and get back to the basics of what informed this previous radical philosophy that no longer serves her. Chiron conjunct the North Node also speaks to a lifetime where Melissa is stepping into the role of healer and teacher.
With her chart angles and planets in mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces), the last years would have presented their ups and downs. Pluto in Sagittarius crossed the MC/IC axis in 2004, which could have brought changes to ambitions and home life. Uranus in Pisces crossed her AC/DC in 2007, fostering personal change and a potential change to relationships. Transiting Saturn in 2007/2008 would have stimulated Melissa’s t-square, slowing her down and forcing her to examine the parts instead of the big picture.
Melissa is now in the build up to her Saturn Return in 2012. She may even be feeling the rumbles of this major rite of passage as she starts to question everything about her life, especially relationships as Saturn is in Libra right now. Her progressed chart shows her AC/DC at 28 degrees Aries/Libra. By this time next year, it will have progressed to Taurus/Scorpio. This means she’s wrapping up one stage of her life, closing the chapter on aspects of her self and relationships. Things maybe unraveling now, but that is merely the ebb before the start of a new cycle.
Next year she’s going to really be feeling her Saturn in Scorpio lessons kicking in. These lessons include lessons in survival, intimacy, power, and the shadow side of sex. Events during 2012 will take on these themes in order to provide opportunities for Melissa to master them. With Saturn in Scorpio in the 8th house, Melissa can get a jump on her lessons by taking the time to think about who has power over her. Does she have lots of debt? Does she feel disempowered by people? Does she stand up for herself? By the end of her return, she will be on the road to a more powerful self.
